Make Your Own Herb Spice Blends!

Making your own herb spice blends is extremely valuable, for it allows you to customized spice jars based on your family’s favourite meals. We reduce our preparation time since we only need to reach for one spice jar to season our meals and it’s comforting to know it contains no harmful additives.

The following recipes are homemade spice blends for some basic blends. Feel free to adjust any ingredients based on your own liking or you can even create a whole new spice blend. When making your own herb spice blends, always select organic spices and seasonings for the best quality and allways store the spice blends in glass jars with tight lids.

All homemade spice blends make approximately 2 cups.

Asian Spice Blend:

  • ½ cup onion powder
  • ½ cup garlic powder
  • ½ cup black pepper
  • 4 T ground ginger
  • 4 T red pepper flakes


Basic Rub Spice Blend:

  • ½ cup paprika
  • 3 T cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup ground black pepper
  • 1/3 cup garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup onion powder
  • 1/3 cup sea salt
  • 3 T dried oregano
  • 3 T dried thyme


Blackened Spice Blend:

  • ½ cup dried thyme
  • ½ cup organic sugar
  • 4 T paprika
  • 4 T onion powder
  • 4 T garlic powder
  • 4 T sea salt
  • 4 T ground black pepper
  • 2 T cayenne pepper
  • 2 T dried oregano
  • 1-1/2 T ground cumin
  • 1 T ground nutmeg


Cajun Spice Blend:

  • ½ cup paprika
  • 1/3 cup salt
  • 1/3 cup ground black pepper
  • 1/3 cup garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup onion powder
  • 2-1/2 T dried thyme
  • 2-1/2 T dried oregano
  • 2-1/2 T cayenne pepper
  • 1-1/2 t red pepper flakes


Chicken Spice Blend:

  • 8 T sea salt
  • 5 T dried basil
  • 5 T crushed dried rosemary
  • 8 t garlic powder
  • 8 t ground mustard
  • 8 t paprika
  • 8 t ground black pepper
  • 8 t dried thyme
  • 4 t celery salt
  • 4 t parsley
  • 2 t cayenne pepper


Chili Spice Blend:

  • ¾ cup chili powder
  • 3 t garlic powder
  • 3 t onion powder
  • 3 t crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¾ t cayenne pepper
  • 3 t dried oregano
  • 2 T paprika
  • 4 T cumin
  • 3 T sea salt
  • 4 T ground black pepper


Chinese Five Spice Blend:

  • ½ cup ground black pepper
  • ½ cup ground anise
  • ½ cup ground fennel seed
  • ½ cup ground cinnamon
  • 2-1/2 T ground cloves


Curry Spice Blend:

  • 1 cup ground cumin
  • 1 cup ground coriander
  • 1/3 cup ground turmeric
  • 4 t crushed red pepper flakes
  • 4 t mustard seed
  • 4 t ground ginger


Herb Spice Blend:

  • 2/3 cup dried oregano
  • 1/3 cup dried basil
  • 1/3 cup dried sweet marjoram
  • 1/3 cup dried thyme
  • 2-1/2 T dried rosemary
  • 2-1/2 T dried sage
  • 2-1/2 T fennel seed


Italian Spice Blend:

  • ½ cup dried basil
  • ¼ cup dried oregano
  • ¼ cup dried rosemary
  • ¼ cup dried marjoram
  • ¼ cup dried thyme
  • ¼ cup dried savory
  • 2 T ground black pepper
  • 1-1/2 T dried sage
  • 1 t red pepper flakes


Mexican Spice Blend:

  • ½ cup chili powder
  • ¼ cup ground cumin
  • ¼ cup dried coriander
  • ¼ cup dried oregano
  • ¼ cup dried basil
  • 2 T dried thyme
  • 2 T garlic powder
  • 1-1/2 T cayenne pepper
  • ½ T red pepper flakes


Seasoning Salt Spice Blend:

  • 1-1/5 cups sea salt
  • 2 t dried thyme
  • 2 t dried marjoram
  • 2 t garlic powder
  • 3 T paprika
  • 4 t dry mustard
  • 1 t onion powder
  • ½ t dried dill
  • 2 t celery salt


Spaghetti Spice Blend:

  • 2 cups dry minced onion
  • 3 T oregano
  • 2 T sweet pepper flakes
  • 4 t dried basil
  • 1 T dried minced garlic
  • 4 t sea salt
  • 4 T dried parsley
  • 2 t dried crushed rosemary
  • 2 t dried thyme
