Simple Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

You will not be disappointed with this homemade teriyaki sauce, it is delicious and super easy to make. There is absolutely no reason to buy a processed variety from the supermarket.

It's definitely my all-time favourite sauce because it is so versatile, for it can be used with so many dishes and it adds so much awesome flavour.

You can use this sauce to marinade your favourite meat, fish, seafood or vegetable, use it as a stir-fry sauce, basting sauce on the barbeque or a cooking sauce in the oven or crock pot.

Adjust the ingredients to your liking, if you prefer more minced ginger or garlic by all means go ahead and add as much as you like. These flavours are the highlight of teriyaki sauce.

I find that 1/4 cup of organic brown sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness, the varieties at the supermarket simply add too much sugar, not to mention other harmful additives. If you want a sweeter sauce, feel free to add more and remember a little goes a long way, this sauce can get sweet quickly.

You may also use a low-glycemic sugar such as coconut sugar or agave nectar.

  • 2/3 cup tamari soy sauce (Some varieties contain gluten)
  • ¼ cup organic brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 t fresh ginger, grated
  • ¼ cup green onions, chopped

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook until sugar has dissolved. Use immediately or transfer to a container and store in the refrigerator.

Once you've had a chance to try your own teriyaki sauce and realize how simple it is to put together, you'll never go searching for this sauce at the grocery store again.
