Simple Homemade Worcestershire Sauce

Homemade Worcestershire sauce is easy to make at home.  This version is healthy, tasty and gluten free which is especially important, since gluten free varieties can be hard to find in many countries.

Worcestershire sauce is a great pantry staple for it adds great flavour to many dishes.  Use it in sauces, dressings or marinades.  In fact, worcestreshire sauce is a great additive for any dish just to help enhance the flavours.  Keep it handy because you'll use it often.  

A great thing about this homemade recipe is that there is no added salt.  Many varieties at the grocery store contain high amounts of salt. The only salt in this recipe comes from the soy sauce, so if salt is a concern, choose a low sodium/salt variety.

  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 T gluten free soy sauce
  • 2 T water
  • 1 T natural organic brown sugar or agave syrup
  • ¼ t ground ginger
  • ¼ t ground mustard
  • ¼ t onion powder
  • ¼ t garlic powder
  • 1/8 t cinnamon
  • 1/8 t black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.  Lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes until sugar has dissolved. Cool and store in the refrigerator.


This version of Worcestershire sauce is wonderful because it's homemade, it's easy to make, it's gluten-free and it doesn't contain added preservatives.  Enjoy!
